In the heart of the enchanting rolling meadows, lived a boy named Shepherd. His being was unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His only responsibility was mainly to look after his herd of sheep.

Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the breezes across the solo tree on the hilltop were his main associates. Day in day, watching over his responsibilities instilled in him a notion of calm satisfaction.

However, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome scheme.

Narratives of wild beasts prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One day he dashed into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw no wolf.

The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This trick continued here for a few more days. But, one day, a real wolf did attack the flock. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the town only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of false alarms.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once violated, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as appropriate today as it was anciently.
